The renewal of vineyards is part of the natural lifecycle of a wine estate. We recently pulled up two hectares of vines, whose leaf and fruit growing had become more and more aleatory over the last years. To compensate this loss, we have planted young Malbec on two hectares of stony and calcareous fallow land at the slopes above the domaine. Tasting of some old Carignan wines from the Minervois among friends

On the occasion of the first international Carignan Day, Pierre Cros had taken some old vintages of his pure Carignan from the cellar, to organise a “vertical” tasting from 1999 up to 2011. Some of these vintages are quite familiar to me, like those from 2002, 2007, 2009, and 2010, but I was curious to see how the older vintages would look like. After a meticulous preparation of the bottles (they were all opened 4 hours earlier and served at 16°C) I could finally taste them, accompanied by friends of Domaine Cros and two passionate wine journalists. The tasting started with the 1999 vintage.

A day for gourmets in the vineyards of the Côtes de Thongue

On Saturday June 30^th, the Domaine de l’Arjolle proposed to spend a “Gourmet Day” in the vineyards of the Côtes de Thongue and in the gardens of Château Margon, north of Pézenas. The program included nice weather, delicious wines and some local specials, prepared with care by the partners of the Arjolle: Fresh oysters from Bouzigues, cold cuts and smoked goose liver, tuna with ginger and spices, as well as an assortment of excellent cheese and some alluring deserts….

Harvest in Vacqueyras and Gigondas with Yves Gras of Domaine Santa Duc

Under a grey but dry sky, Yves Gras is harvesting the last grapes of his most precocious vineyards in Gigondas and Vacqueyras. The rather international harvest team is meticulously sorting the grapes in the vineyards in a concentrated and in a jovial mood, while Yves bends over the trailer to remove the last “bad” grapes and leafs that might have fallen into the buckets. Few but juicy and savoury grapes for the 2012 vintage, by the way the first certified ORGANIC WINE of the Domaine Santa Duc, in vineyard and cellar.
The thunderstorms roaming around France towards the end of September, brought rather beneficial rain for the vineyards and grape varieties that ripen later and will be picked by mid October.
