Latest update : 17 December 2019.
This cuvee partly fermented in oak barrels (20%). Slight lemon aromas and a lot of zest in the nose, perfectly balanced and fresh on the palate, this wine is still young it will light up over the next years. Savour from 2015 to 2020.
The estate was created in 1902 in the heart of the Côte des Blancs. Paul Lebrun started to make his own Champagne in 1931. Nowadays, his grandchildren, Nathalie and Jean Vignier, cultivate 16,5 hectares of Chardonnay around Cramant and (...)

Château du Cèdre 2010 - drink from 2016 till 2024 (16/20)
Still a little reserved, but with great style, fine-grained tannins and without dominance of alcohol our oak. A classy wine that has good capacity to age, even if its harmony allows appreciating it already now, after decanting.

“The Château du Cèdre is the most emblematic wine estate of the Cahors region and the proudest defender of the Malbec grape in France and abroad. There is a reason for this. The estate always gave a good example to the entire appellation, even more in recent history, as it has become a mecca for modern wine culture, using the latest techniques in both vineyard and cellar. Frequently copied, but never equalled.”

GC 2010 - drink from 2018 till 2026 (18/20)
Even if it looks similar at the first glance to the cuvee Le Cèdre, the other top wine from this famous producer, it differs by its particular harmony and style: a more complex flavour, its impressive elegance, its stunning, crystal-clear fruitiness, the class of its tannins and its superb freshness.

Chinas most important wine paper, the Revue du Vin de France, awarded the Cuvée Le Cèdre 2006 Cahors from Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe as „best wine in the world".
„ Already in the January issue of the Chinese Revue du Vin de France, the most important wine paper of the country, the cuvee Le Cèdre 2006 has been elected “best Malbec wine distributed in China”, Pascal Verhaeghe gladly explains . “We are ahead of the Argentineans, and we are very proud of that.”

As I was tasting the 100-plus bottles in this first Vintages release of the year, I did a sudden double take. What? A zinfandel from France? Impossible!
Yes, Z De L’Arjolle 2011 Zinfandel (#346072, $19.95, rating 91/100) is from the Languedoc region of southern France. It was the brainchild of owner Louis-Marie Teisserenc, hailed as “the bearded wonder of the Languedoc.” His winery, Domaine de l’Arjolle, has a single hectare of zinfandel grapes, now nearing 17 years old and really hitting (...)
A scream you can hear all over the world, several times a century. But there are two places where these words have a particular weight: Rome and Avignon.
“We have a pope!”
I think, that after ten years of search, patience and willpower, Yves Gras and his estate Santa Duc might have screamed these same words too. Because there certainly are not many places where it is as difficult to become owner of vineyards as in Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
From the acquisition of his first vineyard, during the (...)
"What’s left to say about Gascon white wine blends that hasn’t been said since the first ones appeared in the 2008 $10 Hall of Fame? The same things I’ve been writing all along — cheap, well-made, food-friendly, and tasty. Can’t get too much of a $10 good thing, can we?
The Cedrus ($10, purchased, 11.5%) is more Gascon cheap white wine excellence, Colombard and ugni blanc blended together to make a crisp, citrusy wine with the region’s trademark white grapiness and that is clean and delicious. (...)
Founded by Henri Lebrun in 1902, this Estate became its final name in 1931 from Henri’s son Paul. Today, the grand-children of Paul, Nathalie and Jean Vignier, take care of the 16,5 hectars of Chardonnay on the Côte des Blancs and in Sézanne. They are specialized in making blanc de blancs. This cuvee is partly fermented in oak wood and has been bottled as an Extra Brut (a very low dosage of only 4 g/l of residual sugar). After some delicate toasty aromas and smells of brioche, it reveals a (...)
