"Some will become jealous again... Three stars and the eighth “coup de cœur” ( the third in a row) for this great cuvee from Pierre Cros that bedazzled the jury again (in a blind tasting). The most envious will even get paler when they know that the remarkable “Vieilles Vignes 2011” did also very well during our “hunt for stars”.
“Les Aspres” are a masterpiece that makes us travel to eucalyptus and cedar woods, presenting warm and cooler fragrances in perfect harmony. On the palate, the first (...)
Very expressive, with a powerful, aromatic nose. Ripeness and power characterise this wine. The prevailing aroma of sour cherry perfectly harmonises with smells of exotic spices - cinnamon, vanilla, pepper – and local herbs – rosemary and wild peppermint.
A crispy acidity and pleasant mellowness, the typical character of a Grenache and Mourvèdre blend, perfectly integrate the expressive tannins. A wine made for years of cellaring, showing the great quality of the (...)
It’s always a little thrilling to discover a new wine, a new cuvée. Nathalie Vignier presented her Champagne Pur Cramant in a very uncomplicated manner: comfortably sitting in her kitchen. A prerelease, disgorged just minutes before, while the remaining bottles will continue their ageing for another couple of weeks. A beautiful champagne, delicately chiseled out of chalk and Chardonnay, with a powerful and enthusiastic nose: white peach, some hazelnuts, zesty lemon and the smell of blossoms (...)
continueA white wine with a warm, golden color. An expressive nose with smells of quince, white blossoms and spices. But its real flavours seem to explode on the palate: Apple, backed pears, pleasant smells of fresh barrique, a hint of smoke… Full-bodied and fresh, it has a creamy texture that makes me think of a fluffy vanilla and cinnamon sabayone.
This wine whets your appetite, asking for good food! But it also invites to far niente, lingering in an arm chair, sipping on a glass of wine, wasting (...)
Like every year, Pierre Cros has presented the new vintage of his Minervois wines this spring. Here’s a small selection of wines for summer and for cellaring:
Cuvée Tradition 2012, red Minervois
This wine made principally from Carignan and Grenache grapes is a real delicacy! An appetizing smell of ripe fruit and herbs, smooth, medium-bodied and juicy in the mouth, this wine is the perfect choice for everyday’s taste pleasure: BBQ, roasted duck or chicken, cheese and bread… You name it! Its (...)
After uncorking the bottle I stay perplex, even thinking I took the wrong bottle. But after studying the label again there is no doubt: This is the first vintage of Pierre Cros’ Pinot noir. Let me explain: The first vintage of this Pinot was 2003. A small cuvee of only 3 barrels, that Pierre filled at the same time as his pure Grenache. In the beginning, both wines were labelled “Pierre-Henry”, with only one difference: On the Grenache label the vintage and the AOC Minervois were mentioned, (...)

"You could never compare it to the type of wine we make in Gigondas. Needless also to ask which one is better. They are different, that’s all. I like working with terroirs that mark the wine. You only have to provide guidance and support.
This is my second vintage in Châteauneuf du Pape. So one might say that I am discovering this wine at the same time as you do. To me, this wine has a very deep, multi-layered taste, like in 2010. Its tannins are very powerful, without ever (...)
I know Burgundy isn’t a benchmark for everything, but it’s a benchmark for Chardonnay. At least, as much as the “Côte des Blancs” in Champagne…
Being more used to straight and fruit wines from the latter region, I am surprised by the aromatic diversity and character of the Clos l’Abbé (The clos of the Abbot) . It’s the first “finished” bottle that Hubert opens for me for a tasting. The wine has gained a lot of fullness and complexity during the last months of bottle ripening. And I am sure, this is (...)
